Floating library
Bringing Knowledge,Help and Hope"
This is the motto of the MVdoulos--the floating library. We went there last Feb.13.It was my first tine to step such place.Of course, at first I was very excited.I woke up early in that morning and went to school early too.During the discussion,I can't concentrate because my mind was already in Doulos. Some of my classmates too, were like me.When we reached our destination(Pier 1),there were few people outside but there were many people inside the Doulos. If I am to describe Doulos, I would say that it is not a very big ship.MV Doulos is only two years younger than Titanic(which was built in 1912) and it was built in 1914.It is also the oldest-sailing ship until today. One thing I like in Doulos is because of its crews. They were just so...nice.Very polite. If you want to know more about MV Doulos, just go to WWW.MVDOULOS.ORG
MV doulos made its last visit here in Cebu from Jan.26 to Feb.19.After many years will it come back And sadly, the ship that will come back soon is not anymore the old ship doulos. The ship will be preserved and will be stopped from sailing. It will be replace by another but newer ship. The crews are voluntary and will be replaced after two years.(it's a pleasure to be one of the crews, isn't it?).I think the crews have two reasons:one is to serve the people and lastly is to sail around the world.
We shopped inside the library and bought the book/s we want. The books were on excellent price. All were discounted. After we shopped,we were asked by the teachers to go to the conference room.
There, in the conference room,we had our lecture. The emcee was Mr.Felipe Boechat from Brazil. He showed us videos about the life there in Doulos and also showed some stolen pictures of the crews.
There were crews who made us guess what their country is.By their accent and by telling us some of their traditions,we guessed their country. They also held games which included the number quiz( Kathleen Abugan was one of the contestants). One game tested the contestants' agility in wearing the required materials. They then explained the purpose of the game.
After showing us some slides and holding games,a Taiwanese woman explained the relationship between human beings and God.She made a demonstration of a cross which symbolizes our being Christians.
After the program ended,we proceeded outside, but, before that we ere given this Book of hope as a souvenir.
However, we ere not alone at the conference room,we were with the students of another school namely the Asian Learning Center(ALC).Of course,It's a very natural phenomenon for students of their respective schools to have a conflict with another students of another school.Fortunately, the conflict did not turn into a war against each school.Everyone talked of his or her own experience in the ship. Most, were grateful that they stepped Doulos.I wonder when the next ship will return here...maybe it will be sooner than what I think.I wish it will return here coz I can't wait to step there again...
So…I think I should end up here ‘na…
